“That’s the extreme pro-abortion position, quote, “health”.”
McCain basically said that the life of a women was worthless compared to the viability of a fetus and to say any to the contrary was to be an extremist primed for his contempt.
John McCain, after defending “Joe The Plumber” throughout all the debate, not only was belligerent about women’s right to choose. He feels it is appropriate to invoke “state rights” with their laws of slavery’s past because he believes women are fickle about the reasons they want to terminate a pregnancy.

Are all the women voters aware of the violent, unjust and horrific suffering of women who gave us the right to vote? I do assume you know that women were tortured and murdered in their attempt to bring us to where we are today.
So for the women in both parties, do you find it extremely disturbing to see a man hang an image of Palin by her neck and the community strangely finds it comically acceptable?

You Republicans leave the womans right to an Abortion alone ..
and
We will leave your right to your 2nd Amendment Rights to a GUN alone.
If you want to piss off women … Just mess with women’s rights.
This is something we fought long and hard to get …and not going to let it go easily.
Women represent over half the voters in this country.

I just saw a question posted by a Republican female that was absolutely HILARIOUS! The poster agreed with Ann Coulter’s assertion that it would be a good idea to take away women’s right to vote, so that the Democrats would have fewer voters. Well, let’s see here. Do most women vote Democratic? Yes. Do ALL of them? No. I reminded this female that if that if she and Ann Coulter couldn’t vote, that would mean at least 2 fewer votes for the Republicans. Isn’t such logic (or the lack thereof) astounding!:)
tslover: Why don’t you practice what you preach and not vote in the next election. It would make a lot of people very happy.:)

The Great Reform Act sparked a series of women’s rights campaigns, coinciding with the suffragette’s feminist movements. The act specifically disenfranchised women; and at the same time declared the removal of all ‘rotten boroughs’, which were areas with small populations, that were still politically represented, even though the industrial revolution had produced huge cities that were still not seen politically. There was a great deal of pressure from the public for this Act, and a revolution was feared under the current system of franchise. The act increased the number of individuals entitled to vote, now 653,000 men could vote out of a population of about 14 million. A second reform act followed – by Lord Russell, though initially denied by the House of Lords, stating that the effects of the masses voting that were not educated enough in politics which could lead to an ineffective government. However in 1867, The Conservatives, under the leadership of Disraeli in the House of Commons, passed their own bill so that they could limit the effects of so many people voting who were ‘uneducated in the field of politics’. The requirements for the votes were as follows: a borough franchise for all who paid rates in person; and extra votes for graduates, professionals and those with over £50 savings. There were now two million voters, and soon able to vote confidentially. Source A shows the unjust disadvantage they were at in being unable to vote, and how men who were criminal and ‘unfit for society’ were able to vote. Women were increasingly aware of the increasing numbers of male voters, of who may have been drunkards or criminals, etcetera. I believe that through these Reform Acts had made women realise their disposition in society, “what a woman may be and yet not have the right to vote,” followed by, “what a man may have been, and not yet lose the vote.” In 1884 Gladstone introduced his proposals that would give working class males the same voting rights as those living in the boroughs. Though refused by the House of Lords, a Redistribution Bill was organised changing the voting requirements. Gladstone accepted the terms and the 1884 Reform Act were allowed to become law. This measure gave the counties the same franchise as the boroughs – adult male householders and £10 lodgers – and added about six million to the total number who could vote in parliamentary elections. I believe that women campaigned for the franchise, as they saw themselves as wholly excluded from legal rights and the mere right to vote, and women wanted input into the laws that affected them and their children. I also think that it would be a milestone in women’s rights, if they were allowed the right to vote, it would lead onto more of a say in government elections and reduce sexism of the era. For example, it is now illegal not to give women equal pay due to the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 and the Equal Pay Act of 1970. Society rendered women as property of the closest male relative, and their place in society relied on the culture, particularly the religious constraints found in most societies. People took the Bible and its teachings quite literally and women were subservient to men who protected them. Women had seen women in other countries entitled to the vote, for example, in Denmark, 1857, women were granted equal rights of inheritance and access to all forms of employment. By 1893, in places such as America and New Zealand (seen as less developed by ‘British standards’) women had already gained the vote. New Zealand was a British colony and it seems quite bizarre that they were able to develop women’s suffrage laws even before a campaign had fully begun in Britain (the supposedly more developed and advanced society). Another important beginning for the campaign was the introduction of women to education. It was only the wealthy that could be educated and therefore learn their underestimated capabilities, giving them the incentive to start their suffragette movement. Women could now understand that they can be men’s intellectual equals, another reason for the start of this huge campaign for women’s rights.

The whole presidential election was a big farce. Reports suggest widespread cheating and from the interior ministry and voter suppression at some polling stations. Official, government tied, news agencies announced the results hours before the vote count began. It appears that the outcome of this election was determined months in advance behind closed doors. Both Reformist candidates had promised lessening of restrictions on women. Ahmadinejad and hardliners will now claim they have a mandate and could make things even worse. Do our governments in Europe and North America have a responsiblity to put pressure on Iran not to implement new repressive measures? What should Hillary’s response be?

Voters were not allowed to decide if slavery should remain legal. They were not allowed to decide if women should have the right to vote. They were not allowed to decide if blacks should have the right to vote. If popular opinion was not allowed to discriminate against those groups and to pass unconstitutional laws, they why is it ok for voters to now deny gays the same rights and liberties that others have? If we can vote to ban gay marriage, we should also be able to vote on legalizing slavery, denying women the right to vote, only allowing landowners the right to vote, banning interracial marriage, and a host of other individual rights issues.

In the latest count 53% of registered voters are female! In all elected offices the amount of female govonors, congresswomen, and any other office Males run the show! What are the reasons for this? Do women by their action believe that they can not do the job as well as males? The whole political landscape could change over night if they voted as a block to see that they get their due! Some times I think that 25,000 years ago they were the givers of life and held a higher status in society. Perhaps men became afraid and wrote the Bible, Torah, Koran etc. and all the stories are writen by the male. Was that a sure way to keep them in their place. When it comes down to a women right, how in the world did males get in the position of deciding what is best for them? I would figure that they have enough smarts to figure it out for them selves. But I been wrong so many times before maybe I’m wrong again! So would some one please set me straight I just can’t figure this one out on my own…..

Since the Obama candidacy and subsequent election, rhetoric of misogynistic or racist preferential treatment of Black men over White women has gone ^. This is a falsehood spread by embittered people who are upset that because Obama is the president-elect, their dreams of McCain winning, then subsequently becoming incapacitated thereby making Sarah Palin the first woman Prez, did not occur. There are too many misinformed people out here. Even comedian Carlos Mencia used the line that a Black man should be first as potus because “Black men were allowed to vote before White women”. Now that the voters have decided, I’d say that this poison is being further spread early in preparation for Palin 2012. Google “Voting Rights Act of 1965″ to help you learn the truth.

“The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a significant piece of legislation that guarantees the right to vote to African American citizens. This legislative act prevented states (mainly southern) from enforcing discriminatory tactics aimed at preventing African Americans fair opportunities to participate in the voting process. As a result of the Act, the national government intervened in areas where African Americans were denied the right to vote.”
‘There is a myth that Black men were given voting rights along with other privileges before White women. This is only half true. African-American groups were aligned with women’s suffrage organizatiions during that era. Black men were given voting rights under the 15th Amendment (1870) but still encountered racial intimidation, poll taxes, and literacy tests. Blacks did not fully realize these rights until ninety-five years later in the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granted White women’s voting rights in 1920.’
Don’t be fooled by your perception that Black men or Blacks have it so damn good in America. In a study of U.S. born California workers,
“Hispanic and black workers earn lower wages.
In recent years, Hispanic workers earned less than 60 cents for every dollar earned by white workers (among full-time workers). Among U.S.-born workers, Hispanic men earned 81 cents, and black men earned 74 cents, per dollar earned by white men. U.S.-born Hispanic women earned 79 cents, and black women earned 86 cents, per dollar earned by white women. U.S.-born Asians tend to earn higher wages than whites; relative wages were $1.04 for men and $1.15 for women.”
The perception that Blacks have it so good is partly based on “antonymous limitation”:
” You will notice in America, the most diverse nation in the world, that in issues of race: the public generally tends to focus on Black and White. Why is that? There are multiple reasons for this. I call this antonymous limitation or narrow-sighted dipolarism interchangeably. “Antonymous” is to say that an issue is handled solely on the basis of pairing opposites or extremes. If you were to say: “I don’t care if you’re fat or skinny, tall or short, boy or girl, conservative or liberal…”, such phraseology is antonymous. Antonymous limitation is the reason why a White kid may be teased for being a hip-hop junkie, but not for being a Sinophile.”
“The status quo of White establishment is the yardstick for measuring enfranchisement of nonwhite minorities. Likewise, achievements of racial progress are oftentimes measured by Black American firsts. This sounds good in theory but misleading in practice because it may ignore peoples who are neither Black nor White. All peoples have successes and sorrows but American White status quo is the model.”

@ elmer_fu…, while i disagree with much of your sentiment, i applaud you for at least having the intellectual courage to answer the ?. I think Obama won the primary fair & square. While there was a sexist bias in the MSM, I do not attribute that to Obama; it was not his fault even if he benefitted from it. Good luck w/ the Palin 2012 bid. Perhaps she will be vetted by then. I think America could use a woman’s touch in the White House. Not Palin but a qualified woman. I think La. Gov. Bobby Jindal will be on the ticket in 2012.
@ Ronnie S, thank you for your input and courage as well. I’ve seen that overt sexism exists. I am an egalitarian and am very sensitive to female issues. I have imagined myself on both sides of the debate for a better understanding. The fact is that Black men don’t necessarily have it as good as everyone is professing. While the US president will be Black or nonwhite, there will still be Black men denied jobs or such that go instead to White women because the HR person prefers someone who looks like his/her mother/sister/spouse/daughter over a Black man or woman. Racism and sexism levels are amber right now but will improve with time. thanx

Forget about him reversing Roe v Wade, lets cut to the chase here, How can any self respecting Female even consider casting a vote for a Man thats still stuck in the dark ages when it comes to Equal rights, Equal Pay for Women? The level of ignorance on such important issues is simply astounding to me personally. Maybe its because I have all sisters that I care and want to make a stand, but reading some of the posts submitted by “Females” makes me scratch my head in disbelief and wonder the thought process, or lack thereof, that goes into some of your choices?
“We have not done enough. And I’m committed to making sure that there’s equal pay for equal work. That there is equal opportunity in every aspect of our society. And that is my record and you can count on it.”
–John McCain, Town Hall meeting, Hudson, WI, July 11, 2008.
The Facts
Lilly Ledbetter was a Goodyear Tire employee who sued the company in 1998 after finding out that she was earning 40 percent less than male co-workers employed to do similar jobs. A federal judge in Birmingham, Ala, awarded her $360,000 in back pay, but the verdict was overturned on appeal. In May 2007, the Supreme Court ruled against Ledbetter in a 5-4 verdict. The justices ruled that employees who believe they have been discriminated against must file a complaint within 180 days with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The Ledbetter bill, which passed the House last year and is now languishing before the Senate, removes the 180-day deadline. Supporters of the bill claim that it is usually impractical to file a complaint within 180 days as most companies are very secretive about salary data, and it can take years to establish a pattern of discrimination.
